In reality there's no internal nor external to anything except in geometry and calculus. In geometry a circle, for example, has an internal area and an external area. The same for a square or any enclosed shape. This applies also to three dimensional geometries like spheres, etc.
The above does not apply to real objects like atoms, cells, plants, or animals. The "interior" of an atom cannot be defined by the envelope of its farthest electron because the electron is at different places at different times, and between those times there are holes in its envelope. Those "holes" connect the interior and exterior of the electron's envelope.
Does a blown up balloon have an interior? Based on the case of an atom, a balloon's shell, which consists of atoms, is also not a complete enclosure because every atom in the shell has "holes." That's why a helium balloon will eventually collapse - there are nearly an infinite number of holes connecting the "interior" and "exterior" of the balloon through which helium atoms can escape.
Does an animal such as a human have an interior? Based on the case of a balloon, no. In the balloon's case the "holes" are microscopic, but in an animal macroscopic "holes" also exist. One such hole is the pathway between the mouth and the anus. Take a long pipe for example; is there an interior or exterior volume at its ends? Clearly not. One could argue that a long pipe with plugs at its ends does indeed have an interior. Would the same pipe have an interior if we drilled a .000000001 inch diameter hole in it. Definitely not. Quantum people might say that the pipe has an interior sometimes, but even that's debatable.
Why is this argument important? It's important as applied to humans to show that we cannot say there's anything interior to a human or exterior to them. The brain isn't inside the skull because there's no inside to a skull. All you have to do is open your mouth wide and decide what's interior and exterior to it. You can't.
Now comes the big jump: Is what we see internal or external to ourselves? The answer is neither. The differentiation between interior vs. interior leads to erroneous conclusions. Even the universe has no interior nor exterior.

The Myth Of Consciousness

This is an experimental blog concerned with exposing the myth of consciousness.
It is my belief that consciousness does not exist. All that exists, in all life forms, are molecular and electro-chemical processes selected by evolution's natural selection.
The illusion of consciousness is itself an electro-chemical process in the brain consisting of neuronal spiking behavior. The result of this neuronal activity is our innate mental behavior of applying intentionality to all things perceived. A table is a table because we classify it as such. The fact that we perceive at all is also an object of intentionality that some call "consciousness." The same with all other perceptions both "internal" and "external." I put these latter words in quotations because later I will show that there is no internal or external to anything real.
